Welcome to my blog!

I created this blog to document my personal take on British politics, life and general issues. This is a serious blog written by an amateur blogger, there is no ulterior motive or selling / linking agenda to it and as of yet no advertising. I have a great love of Oratory, History, Culture and Language and as an inter-connected issue, I enjoy thinking and reading about politics. Don't get me wrong, this blog is not entirely related to politics, many posts will be about anything and everything, interesting and breaking news issues, jokes, experiences, things that have happened to me, general discussion and suggestions for posts. I hope you dont find it too boring because when you get stuck in beneath the surface I think most people will like it. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it, many thanks for visiting - Mac Abbott.

Immigration The BNP and British Racial Opinion, A dichotomy

This post comes after the news of the BNP's (British National Party) ridiculous win in the European Elections. The BNP now have two Members of the European Parliament or MEP's lawfully elected by the British People. In the North-West, Mr. Nick Griffin the leader of the party himself and in Yorkshire and the Humber Mr. Andrew Brons. I call these people "Mr." with a pinch of salt as the phrase "Mr." implies humanity, which is something that neither of these men can attest to have as members of the BNP. This victory for the "To the far right of Ghenghis Khan" party, led me to thinking about immigration and race as an issue with British society in general, Here are my thoughts:

I acknowledge whole-heartedly that there are challenging issues of both immigration and race facing the UK now and in the times to come. As a proud and upstanding country within the International community many English people feel shall we say upset with the seemingly huge numbers of immigrants who have entered and are entering our society, and yes I think we need to see a change in Immigration policy. But I wonder if the stronger minded of these people have ever thought of it in this way:- We can't choose where on this Earth we are born, as embryo's inside our mothers womb we cant send a signal to our Mothers brain saying "Please let me be born in a rich and prosperous country, where Free Speech is a common and core value and I have opportunitys for good education and employment so that I may lead a good life". Most and many of the immigrants who come to UK do so for a better chance at life and that in some ways is to be applauded as people who want to make the effort for a better life. I would say that if the UK had the economy and society of Afghanistan or Nigeria or even an Eastern European country such as Romania, and those countrys had a succesful economy and good basic political stabilty, how many millions of Brits would emigrate to have a chance at a better life in those countrys, I would. (In fact I may! lol).

The reason that the UK is such a popular choice for immigrants both legal and illegal is not just a matter of Political stabilty or reasonable economy, it is in part due to our good standing in the world. As far as my memory serves me other than Esperanto, English is the most popular language in the world and is used in Business and society in most if not all countrys in the world. This saturation of British language and culture throughout the world is another reason that we have so many immigrants, as is the fact that Britain was formerly in control of a huge Empire which was one of the factors involved in saturating the world with the British language and values.

The vast majority of people who come to our country just want to work, and often the do jobs that while are done by English people are looked down upon in our society. We seem to have this sub-consious anathema within our society of "Keeping up with the Jones" and with tv shows like the apprentice we all have dreams of becoming big powerful managers or rich professionals and jobs such Rubbish Man, Manual Labourer etc... are taken up by English people but not with great gusto and even when we do take these jobs were always thinking of earning more money. The simple truth is that immigrants from poorer countrys are not as picky and wouldnt be looking for there next step up the career ladder as much as English people are. A sad fact and truth of this is that many employers prefer to give these types of jobs to immigrants because they tend to work harder, cause less problems and take much less time of sick than there British counterparts. Just try removing the Fillipino and Zimbabwean community from Britain and see the sudden massive shortfall in Nurses and Care Staff all over our country, I wonder what Mr. Nick Griffin will feel if he was to be taken ill and there where no nurses to care for him, I mean these industrys are already chronically short staffed and without the large make-up of immigrants in particular ladies see what would happen to them.

However whatever my views on immigration are ther are many things which deeply annoy me about immigrant communitys in our country and I suspect these things annoy many people, and could in turn be a predominant factor in breeding dislike or dare I say it unescessary Rascism amoung the Indigenous English People. The other day I was looking through the Job Classified Adverts in one of the free London newspapers on the Train and I came across a job advert for a Primary School Receptionist in London (Hackney I think although Im not sure), the advert read "Receptionist required for --- Primary School, good secreterial, computer and people skills required (so far ok, and then) applicant must speak Punjabi as a second or first language". Due to I would imagine a large or predominant Punjab number of children within the school. This is ridiculous and made me feel angry, there is no issue with people emigrating to the UK but these people should integrate into our society. Now I'm not saying that these people should not be allowed to practise there religion our culture within there own familys and communitys, but I am saying that if you come to the UK you must learn to speak English and adhere, respect and live your life while your here by the values and manner of the English People, just as I would do if emigrating to a Foreign Counrty. Of course the vast majority of immigrants do succesfully and fairly integrate into our society but some sadly do not. What right does a publicly funded primary school have to advertise for a receptionist who quote "Must speak Punjabi" In a British school! I know it must be difficult for Punjab and other foreign children to learn English but this should be the responsibility of there parents to teach them English (the parents should speak it anyway as people living here) and community language classes specifically for individual communitys with a view to teaching English, if we allow other languages to be common place within our schools we can only blame ourselves for thevery small number of immigrants who cannot fully integrate into our society.

Now I know that above stanza may sound very contradictory coming from me as I have previously in this post stated different views, but the difference is that this above incident makes me frustrated and think that policy needs to change it does not, turn me towards, prejudice, rascism, hate and fascist idiot idealogy.

I speak 7 languages at various levels ranging from competent fluency in French, German, Tagalog (Fillipino) and of course English and my great passion in life, is Oratory, History, Literature, Languages and Foreign Culture and as a side effect of my interests I have met many many foreign peoples from Fillipinos to Polish and African. The vast majority of these people are hard working respectful and kind peoples, not the invaders as painted by the BNP. I once lived in a shared house where all the other occupants where Fillipino and as an 18 year old boy they took me completly under there wing, They invited me to share every meal, go to every party and be a part of them as a family within the house, i.e. the older ladies would treat me like a son, the men would drink with me etc... There are a great many things that we as English people can learn from Foreign Cultures not just Fillipino and if properly integrated into our society they can contribute a great deal to us as a people

The contributing factors leading to people voting for the BNP enough to elect to MEP's are disenchantment with mainstream politics, ignorance and a low voter turn out. Whatever our dis-enchantments with society may be the BNP and similar partys are not the answer. Were talking about a hatefilled rascist party chaired by Nick Griffin a "Man" who called the "Holocaust" the "Holohoax", refer to immigrants as invaders and have many convictions for race issues amongst there membership. These people are one short step away from being Nazi's and maybe they have forgotten just how many Gurka and other peoples of the world fought for our country and the world in the First and Second world wars, a stand for freedom, people who gave there lives so that we may have our freedom.

On another note the people who protested our parading returing troops in Luton earlier this year are ANIMALS. Calling them Baby Killers, Rapists, Murderers, Pigs. If you disagree with the policy of a government get involved as former US president John .F. Kennedy once eloquently and masterfully said "----omitted ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. Continued----" get involved in Politics if you dont like policy. How dare people protest our troops like that, these are the very troops which put their lives at risk to defend the very freedom that these protesters enjoy as British people, imprison these protestors and then if possible deport them to where there freedom may not be guaranteed by such committed and brave armed forces. And I know the argument over free speech, however free speech should not extend to inciting racial hatrid and that goes for the Fascist idiots who run and are members of the BNP aswell, would anybody consider the oratory of Hitler to be acceptable under the auspices of Free Speech, I think not. A contradiction maybe but it damn well is the right limit.

These are just my thoughts and feelings people and I personally have no hatrid for any immigrants, I dont even have hatrid for the BNP for them I have only pity

As ever Immigration and Race remains a divisive and complicated issue for many world governments and societys to contend with, but lets feel proud for just a moment of our country and its place in the World, I know I do.

My Acceptance / Campaign Speech for the post of Prime Minister

Hello everybody, this post is all about a speech I wrote aged 16 (pursuant to my previous post detailing my small prior involvement with Local Politics), I was fantasising about my acceptance speech after being successfully elected Prime Minister. Its pretty funny that here I am only a few years later, understanding the nativity and megalomaniacal power hungry dreams I used to have. Now I only dream of being the following things, A. Debt Free B. Drunk C. Rich D. Content E. A better Christian and Person etc... But I suppose its nice that I used to have an ambition, however unrealistic that ambition may have been, Here it is then, :).

"I do not want to be shown as a politician motivated by the right of the political scale. Nor do I wish to be shown as the left or the centre middle. I wish to behave Politically, Morally, Personally and Professionally in the correct section of the political scale, which in my eyes cannot be mobilised by being liberal, pc or stereotypically old fashioned, constantly.

The decisions that have to be made to broker a better Britain are the decisions which are the right decisions, Not my party is towards the right therefore my policy's and actions must be within those limitations. Because correct implementation of policy is and can be taken from all sides and agendas of the political and social spectrum.

We all have our own opinions on what is right and what should happen for our country and the wider world. But every person in this world holds a slightly different opinion and in a true democracy, all of these opinions whether liberal, extreme or otherwise should be taken into consideration by all politicians, municipal bodies and indeed every individual in our great country.

I believe that this can only be achieved by dispelling partisanship and all politician of all beliefs working together, towards a Britain free of all racial, sexual and indeed all types of discrimination. To often in politics problems are allegedly tackled by throwing money at them, or handing responsibility to someone else. Well I say the buck stops here.

Britain is a country more of us should be proud to be equal citizens of. We are looked up to all over the world by people of all ages and situations. We as a people have at certain noted times in our history have heavily influenced the world globally, economically, politically, socially and otherwise. Not always for the good much to our shame. But I proclaim a reassurance to the world, that the history of my country, it's positives for the world and it's shameful influence are a matter of deep regret and small pride and WE WILL return this Great Nation of Wordsworth and Hilltops and Glen and Wimpy meal deals to a position of grandeur, respect and influence on the Global Stage. People We need a great discussion for people of all ages, shapes, sizes and beliefs.

Because as has been said before, but this time I hope with a great deal more conviction, hope and belief and with more provable improvement in the years of Office to come. I believe in a better Britain for the common woman and man!, Thank You!".

I hope you didn't find that too nauseating people, lol. Naivety in youth is in many ways a blessing and I wish I still thought solving the worlds problems were as simple as a nicely worded and heart-felt soundbite, but maybe that's as good a place as any too start...

Local and National politics, my previous involvement and aspirations

A few years ago when I was aged about 16 I suddenly got an urge to become inolved in politics and the following blog is really all about telling you of the experiences this gave me and the enthusiasm some may say misplaced I had at the time, as a young and somewhat naive kid, if this post proves popular, I may do another on this subject, so let me know what you think.

When I was 16 and first became interested in politics I felt naturally drawn towards the conservative party (most likely due to dis-enchantment with the labour party of the day and less due to political orientation) and so enquired if I could help with my local conservative party in Rayleigh, Essex where I lived at the time. A charming older gentleman patrician type fellow named Hilton Brown who was the chair of the local conservative party replied to me and said that I could help in a number of ways from just going to local association meetings and providing my input to, campaigning locally when necessary and becoming involved in the founding of the local branch of the Young Conservatives association.

This sounded great to me and I became involved initially by meeting Hilton Brown and attending a few meetings, after a while the Rayleigh conservatives decided to really push ahead with starting a branch of the young conservatives as other areas had, had sucess by involving local children and teens in the party, and as it stood in Rayleigh at that time there were young people involved in the conservative party but not many. So it was decided that a trip to the houses of parliament was in order which would be an excellent local news story and a great way to found the Rayleigh Young Conservatives so often London we went myslef James (who later was elected a Local Councillor in the area), Hilton and a few other people, it was a great trip.

When we arrived at Westminster tube station we went directly to Portcullis house which is situated next to the palace of westminster itself, and house the offices of many MP's especially those who are lower down the ministerial chain and holds a number of meeting rooms etc... after sitting down for the founding meeting of the Rayleigh young conservatives James was elected the chairman, and I the secretary, it was a fun little meeting all around really. Shortly afterwards we were told that a very important conservative mp was going to drop in but that we were not to get to excited as it wasnt David Cameron. It was George Osborne. So in he came and shook our hands deftly deflecting conversation and any smile until the photograph was taken when he put his arms around the group of yolungsters and smiled for his photo opportunity, he then promptly left. It was a this point I decided that George Osborne was a Total Wan*er an opinion which was further bolstered in my mind by the subsequent scandal involving Peter Mandelson in the coming years hmmphh hmmph to**er, anyway afterwards we went across to the main parliament building and after a very short tour we went for a drink on the terrace bar, a good day all around in general.

Shortly afterwards I was asked to go and doorstep campaign with other conservative volunteers in the local council elections in the Hullbridge area which I gladly agreed to and I had a nice surprise as I met our Local MP Marc Francois who had come along to help. When he was asked who he wanted to go and canvas with he chose me, rather flatteringly and was kind enough to drive me ound in his Jag and campaign with me teach me the ropes as it were which was great fun.

We had this little system worked out where he would wait behind a bush or up the road and I would knock on a door and ask "Sorry to bother you but would you consider voting conservative at the forthcoming local elections?" and if the house holder said no or cited local issues there MP would step out from behind the fence and declare "Im your Member of Parliament, nice to meet you" and as Marc Francois is a very charismatic person he could usually charm the knickers off the star struck doorstep punters and soon enough I would hear (most of the time) well no problem the Mr Francois we''ll vote conservative, (whether they ment it or not we found out on election night). It was quite funny at the time. During this time Marc sort of took a shine to me (this sounds awful for me to say about myself because maybe he didnt) but I think he did, and I went with him to his house in Rayleigh and remarked how beautiful his hand carved chess board was lol, and when we visited his house I was surprised at the kind way in which he interacted with his neighbours I suppose it must be similar for most MP's but he would always go over and say hello if they waved and they seemed to really like him which no doubt helped him when it came time to become re-elected.

One day we were out canvassing and he pulled over to the side of the road and took a phone call, and said to me "Were going to meet someone very very important later, the National Chairman of the Conservative Party, so be on your best behaviour lad" I was very excited by this and a few hours later a guy pulled over in a very expensive car got out and Marc introduced me, they then walked towards his car for a private chat, and shortly afterwards the guy drove off (I forget his name). This seemed unusual to me as it looked more like a drug deal than the National Chair meeting a local mid level mp, but it was above board just a strange experience.

Marc would always buy a big round of drinks for the twenty or so volunteers after a days canvassing which was always appreciated, but with the current expenses scandal I wonder if he really did buy those drinks al that time ago (only joking). Marc Francois was and is an excellent devoted local and national politician I say this not only because he was nice to me but because he spent so much more time canvassing and helping locally than the vast majority of other mp's would, yes they all helped when it came time for local elections, but not usually to the extent that Marc would, he was an excellent MP for my money, or maybe I was swallowed by the charisma but I think not lol.

Finally the fated night arrived and I was lucky enough to get a letter inviting me access to the vote in the Rayleigh Civic Community Centre, so off I went. I loved the experience, the counts the re-counts and it was an interesting experience. I met James from the Boy band Busted and talked with him for 45 minutes or so and had a good laugh with him which was nice to meet someone relatively famous (at least amongst screaming 12 year old girls anyways). The candidate I had been campaigning for lost unfortunatly to a seemingly Mental independant whos political oreintation was to the far right of ghengis khan lol and I was surprised that the peope voted for him to that extent in an essex council seat where the public opinion was just centre right, but there you go they did. James who I mentioned ealrier in this post was elected a loacl councillor that night and it was an very proud night for him as a young man, and a step on his political career ladder. I never rated him very highly as he was a pompous twit put personally he was a very nice guy a bit like Harry Enfields Tim Nice But Dim, only not so Dim as one may think.

During this time in my life I met other MP's and important people such as the MP David Amess and generally enjoyed this taste of local politics, but I was never called upon to fulfill any secreterial duties as the named secretary for the local Young Conservatives and slowly drifted away from both local pollitics and the conservative party, of which I am no longer a member.

I have no particular political orientation, I tend to swing between the Lib Dems (maybe I feel sorry for them) and The Torys (A ridiculous contradiction really) but most of the time I just think the Torys to bloody silly, but there you go.

As a younger man I was a bit bombastic about politics and have quitened down, my grandparents started calling me Boris, because as they phrase it (Im chubby, shockingly blonde, amusing and never shut up), but this nickname is slowly slipping off lol.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post about this part of my life and one of my coming posts will be a copy of a political speech I wrote in my teen years which I decided I would recite when campaigning to become Prime Minister in the future (now I know I never will become involved in politics and even if I did it wouldnt happen lol), its acutally really rather good (even If I do say so myself) and maybe you will have a chuckle at its naeivity anyway, until next time - Mac.

Gordon Brown and The Labour Party, How did the talent get lost?

As I sit here typing this my first post for my new blog at 10:42 hrs am UK time on the 5th of June 2009, watching the live feed on the BBC news website of the morning events in Westminster - pertaining to the cabinet reshuffle, resignations and Gordon Browns fight for survival (as the BBC news team phrase it), I'm led to wonder where did it go wrong for Gordon Brown, here are my thoughts.

Before Brown came to power, during the power struggle with Blair, which was seemingly brutal at times, there was I feel a great mood of optimism among the UK populace with regards to the idea of Brown taking over or becoming the leader of our country. This was due to the majority of peoples excellent opinion of Gordon Browns standing, due in part to 5 years of sustained economic growth, under his guardianship of the exchequer (the very same period of growth which was later rightly or wrongly attacked as a contributing factor in the recession and econimic woes of our country ) and indeed his projected image of calm controlled patrician almost but not wuite an eminence grise and in many ways more serious and capable abilitys as a politician, as oppose to the more charismatic and (forgive the lacklustre choice of coming word) fun leadership of Blair.

We saw Brown as a much more serious and capable politician with a proven track record to back his standing and the general mood was of excitement at the prospect of his leadership as issues such as the Iraq war and subsequent scandal tainted Tony Blairs reasonable good standing. However when Brown finally took the reins the people of Britain found that the very traits which we criticisezd in Blair i.e. his lack of credibility and overly charismatic approach and indeed "fun" leadership were the very things which we missed and realized in part we needed from our leader .

After Gordon Browns complete bungling of the situation we had where he was going to schedule and early election or not or will or not, things obviously took a slightly downwards slant and the mood of great optimism was quashed, and to be overly kind to GB certain following events and scandals would have happened to any politician as leader, however his lack of basic interaction skills saw to his never ending slide to un-popularity.

I have no doubt in my mind that Gordon Brown is a most capable, credible and integrity full politician, however he has proved most resolutely that he was never a man for leadership as I beleive that in order to be not just a leader of nations but a good leader of nations you need that mix of credibility, substance and charisma, you can have one or the others but if any are lacking then so your tenure as leader will be lacking in potential. I'm not a Labour voter or labour orientated person and yet I have to acknowledge the passion and integrity of Gordon Brown, yes he has been a pretty awful some may even say terrible Prime Minister, but he has always had the belief and passion and respect for our country something which Is seemingly lacking in other prominent spin-controlled shallow politicians. Whether or not Brown survives as PM on this day of European Elections, scandal and strife I simply do not know but whether he goes now or holds out for a while longer, I will be VERY VERY pleased when he goes and very much in respect of him as a person and politician, a contradicition in terms, but then again when was anything in Politics ever been anything but, a "Contradiction in terms......................
